America’s Clothes Horse is your Western Couture boutique.
It must have all started that one special evening my mom took me to work. I watched her walk down the runway and model clothes. The beautiful clothes and the beautiful women had my attention. Not to mention the high energy of the show. I may have only been four but I was fascinated. Right then and there I fell in love with fashion and all beautiful things.
It’s always been a dream of mine to own a American inspired western couture boutique. Now I am going to live my dream of styling, sharing fashion and designing fashion ……the American way. The American “Wild West” and the rugged cowboy and cowgirl lifestyle are tremendous sources of inspiration for me; the courage to build a life for yourself and face the unknown every day . I am also completely inspired by my friends, lifestyle, horse (aptly named Freedoms Independence), and a “Cowgirl” magazine article about four cowgirls who proved it is NEVER too late to saddle up and live your dream. Never.
So….here I am, this year, this moment, right now. Going for it! Sometimes we can clearly see we are at a crossroads in our life. Cowgirl magazine editor in chief Callon Loessberg wrote, ” We all have a built in compass. The compass has four directions. To the north is excited and challenged, to the south is sick and tired, to the west is to settle, to the east is to settle. Your job is to notice where your needle is pointing.” So as in her “Secrets to Success” article, I am going to list my favorite designers and things and live my dream of buying and selling fashion with my compass pointing NORTH. An American Clothes Horse is who I am. I hope you will be inspired as I was to take action, live your dream and follow your compass. Whatever your dream or goals in life, may you strive and look good doing it in American Clothes Horse style.

Double D Ranch
Double D Ranch started in 1989 as Double D Ranchwear. The Double D stands for Doug and daughters. The “wear” was dropped when they added the home furnishings collection. The business was born out of Cheryl’s inability to handle the thin air atop the mountains at a resort at Angel Fire, New Mexico, where the whole clan had gone on a ski trip. Cheryl spent the day shopping in Taos, where she spotted a man wearing a coat made from a Pendleton blanket. She stayed in Taos and found the little shop where a man took custom orders and made the coats one at a time. She ordered one for herself.
Back home Cheryl and younger sister Audrey, ran an interior design business in Yoakum, Texas. The sisters made their way to the Dallas Market Center looking for home interior ideas and found that they couldn’t get through a hallway or courtyard without being asked about Cheryl’s new coat. Audrey recalled, “One lady even stopped the bus we were on to get on to find out where Cheryl got the coat. We finally had to check her coat in, because we couldn’t get anything done”.

And so began her journey of self-discovery in October of 2009. A journey down a path which has led her straight to the realization that there are so many women who want to have fun, be encouraged and also reminded that they are beautiful and worthy of pursuit. This group of women is known as the Dang Chicks Nation. They are the core element to the company without whom all of her efforts are meaningless.
In the end, Stephanie fully expects her journey of discovery to come full circle as she realizes that in her quest to help other women realize their full potential, she will ultimately be the one most affected by all of the encouraging letters from women who somehow find comfort being a Dang Chick who are courageously fighting cancer, coping with the loss of a loved one, or are managing a life with special needs children. Those women are the real deal.
